Exclusive: Mulikat Adeola To Decamp From PDP, To Pursue Senatorial Ambition

It is now certain that Hon Mulika Akande-Adeola, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will defect from the party.

This was the highlight of a meeting of her PDP faction in Ogbomoso South local government yesterday evening at Soun Primary School, Oke-Alapata.

The meeting attended by hundreds of her supporters received the stalwart and her entourage with excitement when they arrived at the venue.

Akande-Adeola popularly called “Obinrin Rere” and known for her crucial role in swinging the PDP ticket to incumbent governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde, in 2019, against her kinsman, Senator Ayo Adeseun, emphatically told her supporters that they should be on alert for the party whose platform the faction would use to contest the 2023 election.

Underscoring the fact of her maltreatment in the ruling party she stressed it was inevitable that they berth in another platform to pursue future elections.

“Everyone knows we are not well treated in the PDP and it is a bastard that would be provoked and not be angry. We cannot continue where we are not wanted. We will not be left behind.”

She continued, “l have been hearing some rumour going on that our party PDP gave me a nomination for which l rejected, l am standing before you today to dismiss the claim, l don’t want you to be naive on what is going on, nobody called me to pick any form, we worked rigorously for this government but they sidelined us.” Hinting of her defection from the PDP the senatorial candidate of the PDP for Oyo North in 2019, submitted, “We will soon communicate to you the party we will use to contest in 2023. Stand firm and fight the good fight. We are at the peak of the struggle but don’t worry in due time we will let you know the next step”

The former majority leader in the House of Representatives also used the occasion to present to her followers the House of Representatives’ candidate their new party is going to adopt for Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/Oriire Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections.

The candidate, Odunola Ogundipe, was received with enthusiasm by the crowd.

Odunola Ogundipe meanwhile is the grand daughter of a prominent community leader in Ogbomoso, Chief Samuel Ogundipe, who died in 1976.

Chief Ogundipe was a former president of Ogbomoso Parapo Worldwide, who played several pivotal roles in the development of Ogbomosoland during his lifetime.

“Our grandfather played prominent role in Ogbomoso during his lifetime; also he was a politician in the First Republic, represented Ogbomoso constituency and helped a lot of people,” a brother to Odunola Ogundipe, Goke Ogundipe, told newsmen.

Mr. Ogundipe also said, “Since his death, we have not heard any Ogundipe participating in politics, and so, we want to resurrect that name through her.”

He added, “My sister is very bold, highly intelligent, she will represent the constituency very well if given the chance. That is why the family is supporting and putting her forward.

“We need women in politics, they are mothers, who naturally are compassionate. People should rally round to support her.”

In the meantime, a party member who however pleaded anonymity, informed, “Our plan is to defect to another party which is Social Democratic Party (SDP), since the present administration in the state has failed us, we have decided to find a greener pasture somewhere else.”

Meanwhile, newsmen could not speak with either Akande-Adeola or Odunola Ogundipe as they left the meeting in a hurry for another meeting.
