As the race to the leadership of the 10th National Assembly has continued to gather more momentum, a foremost independent campaign group clamouring for the actualisation of Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio presidency in the Senate, SGA10, has continued to draw supports for the former Minority Leader. This, was as the group passionately appealed to the senators elected on the platforms of opposition parties, to consider the senator-elect from Akwa Ibom North-West for the number one legislative job.

In a release on Saturday in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, the Convener of the group, Akinloye Oyeniyi, said that based on his track records and wealth of experience as a lawyer, governor, federal lawmaker and minister, Senator Akpabio is the most suitable and qualified to lead the next Senate and the National Assembly.

The group laid out qualities expected of the occupier of the office of the Senate President and how the former Akwa Ibom State governor and immediate past Minister of Niger Delta should be considered having possessed such qualities.

“As an independent group, we want to, as a matter of great national concern appeal to the 50 Senators-Elect on the platforms of Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Young Progressives Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance, to consider competence and personal qualities a good leader should possess and work for the emergence of Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio as the Senate President of the 10th Assembly.

“We equally thank leaders across all political parties, various groups and majority of Senators elected on the platform of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), for throwing their weights behind the experienced lawyer, legislator and astute administrator who has exhibited not only high loyalty to the country but also virtues of magnanimity, sense of fairness, intellectual excellence, and deep selflessness needed for unifying national assignments”;, Oyeniyi said.

It added that the group has thrown its weight solely behind Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio because of the verifiable wealth of experience accrued from positions he held before which can be harnessed to bring about a united, highly competent, responsive and well-equipped Senate and National Assembly.
