Police Officer Injured As Protesters Storm Oyo Govt Secretariat Over Naira, Fuel Hardship

Hundreds of protesters on Friday stormed the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi Ibadan over naira note scarcity and fuel hardship.

The Nation Newspaper reports that a police officer attached to the Governor’s office was injured in an attack by protesters.

Earlier, the Secretariat gate was locked on the information that pockets of protests had rocked different parts of the capital city.

The protesters who came with sticks, woods, broken bottles and other dangerous weapons forced the two main gates of the Secretariat open, making the security operatives on ground to take cover.

With many workers and people within the Secretariat scramping for safety, the protesters head straight to the Governros office, where they attempted to force the gate open.

The resistance by the officers on duty who fire blank shots into the air made the protesters resolved to throwing stones and other dangerous weapons into the governor’s office.

The officer had earlier attempted persuading the protesters, preaching calm, but was shocked to receive rain of stones, which led to his profuse bleeding.

The protesters were said to have taken to destroying property at sight.

The swift intervention and backup from men of the Operation Burst and Police Team saved the situation that would have degenerated into a major crisis.
