One Down, 16 On The Loose, As Okada Thief Is Arrested At Owode Ogbomoso
Luck ran out of an okada thief this afternoon as he was caught at Agbowo area, Oke-Owode, while attempting to steal a motorcycle popularly called okada.
He initially escaped, ran frantically, jumping over walls and all obstacles, but he was pursued hotly until he got apprehended at Ile-Iwe area (about two kilometres away) by the people baying for justice.
People descended on him brutally, he was stripped naked but sense of justice prevailed and was marched naked to the nearby Owode Police Station.
According to eyewitnesses the suspect almost succeeded but people got wind of his heinous attempt leading to alarm being raised.
“He fled precipitately,” an eyewitness told ogbomosoinsightonline.com. “People pursued him relentlessly, he jumped over fences, he ran far before we were able to apprehend him at Ile-Iwe area,” it was added.
It was gathered that the owner of the motorcycle was a client at a bet shop at Agbowo, and had parked his motorcycle outside.
The suspect made sure the owner was adequately distracted before he made his move, in fact, he was said to be around surveying the vicinity when the okada operator arrived.
Upon being subjected to serious beating he was said to have confessed that 17 of them came down from Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, to steal or snatch motorcycles in Ogbomoso and had dispersed into the metropolis.
Newsmen saw him as he was being taken into the police station en route receiving his comeuppance, followed by a large crowd.
