Why I’m yet to declare my ambition for 2023, by Sports minister
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, has said the reason for delay in declaring his ambition to aspire for elected political position in 2023 is because he is yet to resign his ministerial position, as stipulated by the constitution.
He said consultation with party leaders and members was ongoing, adding that his declaration was underway.
Dare, the Agbaakin of Ogbomosho land, while hosting some Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in his Ibadan home during Iftar, said there were several positions to contest in 2023, adding that with the requisite he had got in and out of the government, together with his qualifications and management of resources, he was capable of contesting any position.
He said: “At age 56, I’m ripe enough to aspire for any position. I’m still consulting because I’m a minister appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari and I have to continue discharging my duties till it is time for me to make exit.”
“My focus now is to serve the country through the appointment given to me by the President. But anybody that is qualified and has the heart of service and ready to serve can go ahead.”
The minister showed displeasure about the crisis rocking the APC in the state, saying the failure of the leadership of the party to resolve the crisis might affect the chances of the party in 2023.
He said as a bona fide and founding member of the APC, he would not leave the party, but would stay to ensure justice and fairness prevailed.
