Olaniyan Resigns FCE Oyo Council Chairmanship to Challenge Buhari for Oyo North Senate Seat
Former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan, has resigned as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo to pursue his senatorial ambition in Oyo North.
Olaniyan’s resignation, which takes effect from Monday, was formally conveyed in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. He noted that his decision aligns with constitutional and electoral guidelines requiring political appointees to step down before participating in party primaries.
The former council chairman expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as a privilege and a period of impactful contribution to the institution’s growth.
He also commended members of the governing council and the management of the college for their cooperation and support throughout his time in office, noting that their collective efforts helped maintain stability and progress within the institution.
As part of the transition arrangement, Olaniyan recommended Barrister (Mrs.) Inime Aguma as Acting Chairman of the Governing Council, citing her experience, competence, and deep understanding of the college system.
With this move, Olaniyan is set to contest for the Oyo North Senatorial seat, currently held by Abdulfatai Buhari, signaling what is expected to be a keenly contested political battle in the district.
