The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adelabu made the announcement during consultative meetings held on Friday with APC leaders and stakeholders across Ogbomoso and Oyo zones. The meeting in Ogbomoso took place at the residence of party chieftain, Chief Ayoade Adeseun.

Speaking at the gathering, Adelabu described the consultation as part of his early preparations ahead of the 2027 poll. He called for reconciliation within the party, appealing to aggrieved members for forgiveness and unity of purpose.

“I’m here to tell you that I want to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State in 2027,” he said. “I have gathered enough experience from my past two outings, and I believe the time is right to put all I’ve learnt to test.”

Acknowledging the importance of Ogbomoso in the political calculation of the state, Adelabu expressed satisfaction with the apparent unity among various factions in the zone.

He also addressed party stakeholders in Oyo town, where he pledged to run an inclusive government if elected, assuring that all interests would be carried along in the governance process.

“No one will be left behind. I want everyone to know that nobody can impose a candidate on others. I am ready to prove my strength through democratic competition,” he said.

Adelabu, who was the APC governorship candidate in 2019, defected to the Accord Party after losing the APC ticket in the build-up to the 2023 election. He contested under Accord but finished third with 38,357 votes, while Governor Seyi Makinde of the PDP won re-election with 563,756 votes. APC’s Teslim Folarin came second with 256,685 votes.

Now back in the APC and serving as a minister, Adelabu appears poised to revive his governorship dream, calling for unity and strategic planning to return the party to power in 2027.
