When Will Governor Makinde Extend His Generosity Beyond Ibadan?
By Femi Ajiboye
Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent gesture of gifting cars to broadcasters in Ibadan has been widely celebrated, showcasing his recognition of the media’s role in governance and societal development. Names like Enitan Bamidele (EOB), Alhaji Komolafe Olaiya, Demola Babalola, and Dare Adekanmbi stand out among the beneficiaries, alongside notable entertainers such as Fuji musicians Saheed Osupa and Taye Currency. These individuals have undoubtedly contributed to the growth of Oyo State through their platforms, and the governor’s acknowledgment of their efforts is commendable.
However, this move has left many broadcasters outside Ibadan, as well as bloggers, feeling overlooked. Across Oyo State, in places like Ogbomoso, Oyo, and Iseyin, media professionals and content creators are working tirelessly to inform, educate, and entertain the public. Many of these individuals play critical roles in amplifying the governor’s achievements and policies to a wider audience, often under more challenging conditions than their Ibadan counterparts.
Their efforts deserve recognition. A similar gesture of support, whether in the form of car gifts or other incentives, would not only boost their morale but also ensure fairness and inclusivity. These professionals, though not based in the capital city, contribute just as significantly to the dissemination of information and the promotion of good governance.
Bloggers, too, deserve acknowledgment. In this digital age, they are the unsung heroes of modern media, breaking news and providing critical insights that shape public opinion. Their platforms reach thousands, often with content that highlights the positive strides of the Makinde administration. Yet, their contributions remain largely unrecognized. Including bloggers in these acts of generosity would demonstrate an understanding of the evolving media landscape and the importance of all players in the information ecosystem.
Governor Makinde has proven himself a leader who values the contributions of all stakeholders in the state. Extending his generosity to broadcasters outside Ibadan and bloggers would further cement his legacy as a governor who listens and acts inclusively. These groups eagerly await the day when their hard work and dedication will also be celebrated.
Your Excellency, this is a plea from the voices outside Ibadan, who are no less passionate, no less dedicated, and no less deserving. Recognizing their efforts would not only enhance their capacity but also strengthen the bond between the government and the people they serve.
