Oyo Government Addresses Setback Concerns on Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road

The Oyo State Government has clarified issues regarding the ongoing construction of the Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, assuring the public that there has been no expansion of the designated road corridor.

At a press briefing, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo, and the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Dahud Kehinde Shangodoyin, explained that the total 500-metre corridor was acquired in two stages: 150 metres (left and right) in 2006 under former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, and an additional 350 metres (left and right) in 2018 by the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

Officials have been marking properties within the corridor to identify those eligible for compensation, integration, or relocation. However, in response to public agitation, Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered a halt to the markings and directed that the current setback for construction be limited to 150 metres (left and right).

It was also revealed that villages, housing estates, and other settlements within the 150-metre zone will not be demolished but instead fenced off from the road, with no direct access to the Circular Road. The government further promised to mitigate the impact of the project on affected properties.
