Sen Ayoade Adeseun Dumps Mayegun Title, Faces Oba Ghandi Olaoye in Open Clash
Former senator, Hamzat Adeseun, has openly confronted the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, as he announced his resignation as the Mayegun of Ogbomosoland.
Speaking at a press conference held at his Onipanu residence, Adeseun dismissed his earlier suspension by the monarch, insisting that he was stepping down voluntarily.
“I challenge Kabiyesi and his cohorts to list their achievements in the last 30 years. Do not suspend me ,I am resigning,” he declared.
The former lawmaker accused the palace of actions that do not align with his beliefs, alleging that individuals who advocate for the progress of the town are being branded as “ota ilu” (enemies of the land).
Adeseun further stated that no individual is above the law, stressing that the people of Ogbomoso would not be taken for granted. He also referenced the Ogbomoso Parapo case, claiming that the monarch had lost the legal battle, quoting it as part of his justification for speaking out.
According to him, the traditional ruler should serve as a unifying figure rather than deepen divisions within the community.
“He should be a peacemaker, not a divider. A king must unite his people,” Adeseun said.
Declaring his final position, he announced the relinquishment of his title as Mayegun, noting that while chiefs are expected to advise, he could no longer remain in a system he believes undermines the town’s progress.
