Saheed Fijabi joins 2027 Oyo governorship race
Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, a former two-term lawmaker and chairman of the Oyo State at 50 Committee, has officially joined the 2027 Oyo State governorship race under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His entry comes as the state prepares for a smooth succession following Governor Seyi Makinde’s tenure.
Akinade-Fijabi, from the prominent Fijabi family of Ibadan, has had a long-standing record in public service after being elected to the House of Representatives in 2011 to represent Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituency, serving for eight years.
During his legislative tenure, he sponsored bills and motions addressing national and local issues, including road safety, the Ebola outbreak, cervical cancer, sickle cell anaemia, and youth employment.
He also supported the Not Too Young To Run Bill, advocating for greater youth participation in governance.
As Chairman of the Oyo at 50 Committee, Akinade-Fijabi led the planning and execution of the state’s golden jubilee celebrations, which highlighted Oyo State’s achievements and elevated its national and international profile.
Beyond politics, Akinade-Fijabi has experience in real estate and hospitality, which he says complements his public service record and prepares him to manage the state’s affairs effectively.
Speaking on his governorship ambition, he pledged to continue Governor Makinde’s developmental agenda, emphasizing youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and good governance.
