OYO 2027: Consider Zones Outside Ibadan, Ogbomoso Group Charges Ayorinde Committee
The Ogbomoso Project, a political pressure group in Ogbomoso, has urged the Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN, Committee to give adequate consideration to aspirants from outside Ibadan, especially Ogbomoso, in its assignment to screen governorship aspirants for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
Addressing a press conference in Ogbomoso on Monday, the Convener of the group, Prince Olusegun Oyeniyi said the committee, set up last week by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, should give top priority to Ogbomoso aspirants, citing the need for equity and fairness in Oyo State’s political landscape.
“The committee, chaired by Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN, has a responsibility to ensure that the governorship aspirants from Ogbomoso Zone are given fair consideration.
“So, we urge the committee to clear its name from the perception that this is an as usual Ibadan agenda, by picking one of the sound and committed aspirants outside Ibadan, especially from Ogbomoso Zone,” Oyeniyi said
The committee which is chaired by Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, SAN, who is also the Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council, also comprised of members drawn from the PDP Elders Council and the Governor’s Advisory Council.
It’s noted that Oyo indigenes outside Ibadan Zone are already skeptical about the committee’s intentions, given its composition and Ibadan’s dominance of the governor’s seat, a perception Oyeniyi dismissed as premature, and assured the committee that if it puts forward an Ogbomoso person, the zone will mobilise behind such person if eventually emerged as the preferred candidate of the zone.
The PDP had constituted the committee to evaluate aspirants’ credentials, experience, and acceptability. The group’s call comes as skepticism of majority of Oyo State indigenes about the committee grows right from time the committee begins its assignment.
