Senator Hosea Agboola Quits PDP, Cites Future Political Pursuits and Rift with Makinde
In a major political development, former Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending a long-standing association with the party.
The Oyo-born politician made his decision known in a letter addressed to the party’s leadership on Friday, expressing gratitude for the opportunities and trust he enjoyed over the years.

“I, Senator Hosea Ayoola Agboola, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and a leader both at the state and national levels, appreciate the party for the opportunities afforded me to serve as a member and leader, as well as the achievements recorded therein.
“However, you will observe that I did not participate in the recent local and state congresses due to my future political pursuits, which are necessary at this material time. Consequently, I hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party effective from October 10, 2025. I wish the party success in its future activities,” the letter read.
His departure follows a deepening rift with Governor Seyi Makinde. Once regarded as one of the most influential figures in the governor’s first-term administration, Agboola’s political relevance has reportedly been reduced to that of a ceremonial leader in recent years.
Observers say his exit could alter the political balance in Oyo State, as speculations mount over his next political destination.
