The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has officially inaugurated its campaign council for the upcoming by-election in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, scheduled for August 16, 2025.

The by-election follows the death of the former representative of the constituency, Hon. Musiliudeen Akinremi, fondly called “Jagaban,” who passed away in July. Akinremi was a two-term lawmaker and a popular grassroots politician.

At the inauguration ceremony held at the APC state secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the State Chairman, Hon. Olayide Abas, urged members of the campaign council to work collectively to deliver a convincing victory for the party’s candidate, Adewale Olatunji, popularly known as Murphy.

While paying tribute to the late Akinremi, Abas described him as a man of the people who exceeded expectations in office and left an indelible mark on the constituency. He also noted that only candidates from the Alliance for Democracy, Action Congress of Nigeria, and APC had brought true representation to the constituency since 1999, cautioning against allowing what he called “hawks and impostors” to reclaim the seat.

Abas applauded all aspirants who contested the party ticket, acknowledging their contributions to the democratic process and the APC’s strength in the constituency. He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among party stakeholders in the weeks ahead.

The campaign council is chaired by Hon. Akin Alabi, who represents Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Alabi is expected to spearhead the party’s mobilisation efforts across the constituency. His deputy, Gaphar Ojetola, praised the commitment and unity within the party and pledged the council’s total dedication to the campaign.

Ojetola also promised a grassroots-driven approach, ensuring voters are well-informed about the APC’s developmental agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the former aspirants, Monsuru Adeyemo commended the inclusive nature of the campaign strategy and reaffirmed his support for the party’s candidate, stressing that collective unity would be key to securing electoral success.
