SUSPECTED TERRORISTS KIDNAP AMOTEKUN OFFICER IN OYO STATE

A member of the Amotekun Corps, Rabiu Akeem, has been reportedly abducted by suspected terrorists in Budo Alhaji village, Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to security sources, the incident occurred on Monday, July 14, around 5:30pm in the forest along the Ighoho–Igbope–Igbeti axis. Akeem, alongside two other armed Amotekun personnel, had entered the forest to fetch firewood when they were suddenly ambushed by gunmen.
Following the attack, the Amotekun commander in Orelope LGA, identified as Taofeeq, and another officer, Ogunikojo Ojekunle Lekan, lodged a report at the Ighoho Divisional Police Headquarters at about 10:53pm.
In response, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised a joint security team comprising police officers, Amotekun operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters to the scene for a search-and-rescue mission. The forest area has since been combed in a bid to rescue the missing officer and apprehend his abductors.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and assured that every effort is being made to ensure Akeem’s safe return and bring those behind the attack to justice.
Meanwhile, in a related development, an officer of the Osun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) was killed by suspected hoodlums in the Papa Farm area of Iwo Local Government Area in Osun State.
Confirming the tragic incident, the Corps spokesperson in Osun, Yusuf Idowu, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the officer was killed while responding alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to a distress call from farmers who were reportedly under attack.
