Makinde Appoints Wolekanle as Chairman of Oyo State Local Government Service Commission

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Hon. Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as *Wolekanle*, as the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission.
Wolekanle, a notable politician and business mogul from Ogbomoso, was the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Oyo North Senatorial District in the 2023 general election. Although he lost at the polls, Wolekanle remains a strong force within the party, widely respected for his grassroots influence and philanthropy.
The appointment, contained in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Honourable Segun Ogunwuyi, also announced other members of the Commission. They include Mr. Yusuf Ali Akinkunmi and Alhaji Oke Taiwo as full-time members, while Mr. John Abisoye Adisa-Oke and Mrs. Nike Arewa were appointed as part-time members. Their appointments are subject to confirmation by the Oyo State House of Assembly.
In a related development, Governor Makinde also approved the appointment of additional members into the Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing). The newly appointed members are Abdu Rahman Agbotomokekere, Amusat Ayyub Agboola, Dawud Afolabi, Latifat Dairo, and Mallam Abdusallam Abdullateef. Their appointments take immediate effect.
Governor Makinde congratulated the appointees, urging them to view their new positions as a call to serve the people of Oyo State diligently and selflessly.
The announcement comes as part of Governor Makinde’s continuous efforts to strengthen governance at all levels as he marks his 57th birthday. Wolekanle, in a separate message, commended the governor for his visionary leadership and commitment to the development of Oyo State, while also extending warm birthday wishes.
Wolekanle’s appointment is seen by political observers as a strategic move to consolidate the PDP’s strength in Oyo North and recognize his loyalty and contributions to the party.
