Oyo Govt to Upgrade 66 Primary Healthcare Centers for Improved Healthcare Delivery

In a bid to enhance healthcare delivery at the grassroots, the Oyo State Government has announced plans to upgrade 66 Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) across the state. The initiative, which aims to strengthen the healthcare system, will see at least two PHCs in each of the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) revitalized to provide better services to residents.
The announcement was made by the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, who emphasized the government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare, particularly for rural communities. According to her, the upgrades will include infrastructural renovations, the provision of modern medical equipment, and the deployment of additional healthcare personnel to ensure effective service delivery.
She further stated that the initiative aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision of strengthening primary healthcare services in the state. “The revitalization of these centers is part of our broader strategy to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable to all citizens, especially those in underserved areas. We are focusing on infrastructure, equipment, and human resources to make these facilities functional and efficient,” she said.
Dr. Ajetunmobi noted that the project will also improve maternal and child health services, immunization programs, and emergency response capacity. She added that the state government is collaborating with relevant stakeholders, including international health organizations, to ensure the success of the initiative.
Residents of the benefiting communities have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the upgraded PHCs will alleviate the burden of seeking medical care at distant health facilities. Many lauded Governor Makinde’s administration for prioritizing healthcare, describing the move as a step in the right direction.
With the planned upgrades, the Oyo State Government aims to further strengthen the state’s healthcare system, reduce mortality rates, and enhance the overall well-being of its citizens. The project is expected to commence in the coming weeks, with a timeline set for completion within the year.
