Appeal Court Affirms Oba Ghandi Olaoye as Soun of Ogbomoso Amid Jubilation

The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan has upheld the selection and installation of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso, overturning an earlier ruling that nullified his ascension.
A three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Yargata Nimpar, resolved all 10 grounds of appeal in favour of Oba Olaoye, setting aside the October 25, 2023, judgment by Justice K. A. Adedokun of the Oyo State High Court. The lower court had ruled that the selection process did not comply with the provisions of the Soun Chieftaincy Declaration of 1958.
With this ruling, Oba Olaoye’s reign has been reaffirmed, clearing all legal obstacles in his path.
Following the verdict, hundreds of Ogbomoso indigenes trooped to the Soun’s palace in wild jubilation, chanting songs of victory and solidarity. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as residents celebrated what they described as a long-awaited justice for their monarch.
