The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State yesterday organized simultaneous senatorial district meetings aimed at uniting stakeholders, leaders, and members to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections. The gatherings, held across Oyo’s senatorial districts, were designed to solidify the PDP’s position as the state’s leading political party.

Two weeks ago, the state leadership issued a notice of the meetings, encouraging members to join discussions and engage in strategy planning for the future.

In Oyo South, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, the state secretary of the PDP, reassured members about the benefits of belonging to the party in power. Adeleke affirmed that the party is committed to responding to the concerns of its members, pledging loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration and the senatorial district. House Speaker Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin delivered a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the continued support from members, especially during the last general election.

Meanwhile, in Saki, Oyo North, Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal emphasized the party’s support for Governor Makinde, promising loyal members continued rewards from the administration. Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha, former PDP State Chairman and now the governor’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, reaffirmed the district’s commitment to Governor Makinde as the party’s leader, noting that the state executive is working closely with him to steer the party’s direction.

Dr. Sakariyahu Adegbite Balogun, a former Deputy Chief of Staff, called for broader consultations among stakeholders before scheduling future meetings, urging members to bring any divisive issues to the attention of the leadership to preserve unity in Oyo North.

In Oyo Central, PDP Senatorial District Chairman Hon. Mufutau Olatunde Ogunremi welcomed attendees and outlined the purpose of the meeting, discussing current political dynamics and key expectations for maintaining harmony across the district’s 11 local governments. Former senator and Oyo’s first female Speaker, Alhaja Monsura Summonu, cautioned against factionalism within the district, calling it a potential threat to the party’s stability.

Elder Wole Oyelese, a member of the State Advisory Board, praised leaders and members for their commitment to the party’s progress in Oyo Central, urging unity and expressing full support for Governor Makinde’s leadership.

The simultaneous senatorial meetings marked the PDP’s first district-wide gatherings since the 2023 elections, bringing together leaders, elected officials, appointees, stakeholders, and members across Oyo State’s senatorial districts.
