ASUU gives FG 21-day strike notice
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has informed the Federal Government of its plans to embark on a nationwide strike by placing the government on a 21-day notice.
According to PUNCH, the notification was confirmed by sources within ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) on Monday in Abuja.
The notice was issued following a crucial NEC meeting held at the University of Ibadan, where members deliberated extensively on the current state of affairs.
A copy of the notice is expected to be transmitted to key government bodies, including the Federal Ministries of Labour and Education, as a formal warning of the impending industrial action.
A member of the NEC, speaking on the condition of anonymity, clarified that the notice should not be interpreted as an ultimatum but as a formal strike notice.
“It is not an ultimatum but a strike notice. We are giving them 21 days’ notice, after which we shall embark on strike.
“Our aim for putting out the notice is that it is a requirement under labour laws so we are trying to ensure that all our actions are done according to the law,” the source said
