The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has praised the judiciary for its impartiality following the local government election petition tribunal’s decision to dismiss the petition filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Mr. Abdulwasiu Danladi, against Hon. Wole Akinleye, the chairman of Akinyele Local Government.

The tribunal ruled that Danladi’s petition was filed outside the 14-day window period required after the election results were announced. Danladi submitted his petition on May 12, one day past the deadline. The tribunal declared the petition incompetent and without substance, highlighting the SDP’s failure to harmonize their petitions effectively.

The SDP, which finished third in the election, had taken legal action against the Oyo State PDP, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, and Hon. Wole Akinleye.

Reacting to the ruling, PDP acting spokesperson Mr. Ogunsina Michael lauded the judiciary as the last hope of the common man. He congratulated Akinleye on his victory and urged him to leverage this opportunity to improve the welfare of the residents in Akinyele Local Government.

This ruling comes shortly after the tribunal dismissed another petition from Mr. Omotoso Olayide, an All Progressives Congress (APC) councilorship candidate in Ido Local Government.

Ogunsina reaffirmed the commitment of the PDP-led state and local government to the welfare of the people of Oyo State.
