Ogbomoso Mourns as 31-Year-Old Farmer Murdered by Herdsmen Laid to Rest Today
A wave of grief swept through Ogbomoso on Wednesday as the remains of Solomon Adigun, a 31-year-old bachelor recently murdered by Fulani herdsmen, were laid to rest. Adigun was brutally killed in his farm at Elemuye in Surulere Local Government Area after previously complaining about the destruction of his father’s farm by the suspects, during which a cow reportedly died.
The herdsmen allegedly traced Adigun to his farm and fatally stabbed him in the back. His burial took place at the Ogbomoso Baptist Conference Cemetery in Aroje along the old Ilorin road, with family members and sympathizers in attendance.
This is coming four months after Segun Adegboyega, a pastor, was allegedly killed by individuals suspected to be herdsmen on his farm in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Expressing his sorrow, a mourner who wished to remain anonymous, said, “His death is devastating not only because we were close but also due to the fact that he was a hardworking, nice person dedicated to the service of God. I am still in grief.”
He urged the government and Nigerians to address the escalating threat posed by Fulani herdsmen, noting, “It is getting out of hand. This year alone, I have heard about three deaths caused by these herdsmen in Ogbomoso. The government must protect us. It is critical; the herdsmen now snatch motorcycles, destroy farms with impunity, and attack people in their homes. Nigerians must rise before people resort to self-help.”
