Naira, Fuel Scarcity: Fresh Protests In Ibadan, Ogbomoso As Residents Block Roads

Fresh protests rocked Ibadan, the Oyo state capital again, and Ogbomoso on Wednesday morning amidst fuel and Naira scarcity.

The early Wednesday morning protests which brought about some pandemonium saw the residents trooping out to the street to express their displeasure over the continued hardship in getting petrol and Naira notes.

Sources said transporters led the protests around Eleyele/Ologuneru axis of the capital city and Caretaker axis of Ogbomoso

Other places were pockets of protests are currently ongoing according to sources include Gbopa, Ologuneru, Apete, Sango, Poly road, Mokola and Iwo Road axis

The protesters already blocked the Eleyele/Eruwa road making movement impossible for residents.

Thousands of other residents who were apparently unprepared for another round of protests as they made their way out were surprised to discover that the road had been blocked by people protesting fuel and naira scarcity.

The Eleyele/Eruwa road is the major road that leads Ibadan to Ibarapa zone.

The blockage of the road has resulted into heavy traffic in Eleyele, Ologuneru and adjourning areas.

Witnesses at the scenes said the transporters were obstructing the free flow of vehicular and pedestrian movements around the areas.

It was gathered that the transporters said they were out in protest over the non availability of cash, as well as, the rejection of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes by passengers and some fueling stations.

As at the time of filing this report, there is serious apprehension across the city as many people have been going about in panic and fear of the unknown.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Oyo State Police Command has not been fruitful as at the time of this report.
