Workers in the service of Oyo state government have been grumbling over Governor Seyi Makinde’s refusal to release deductions to their various cooperative societies.

Investigation revealed that, the state government released deductions up till June which has made it extremely difficult for the various cooperative societies to meet the obligations of their members.

“I can tell you that many workers are unhappy with the present situation. If something is not done to quickly address the problem, many of those cooperative societies will be in distress” a source said.

A worker who pleaded anonymity also stated “I had applied for a loan since July. As at this moment, I cannot access the loan. The governor should urgently approve the payment because it is affecting us.

“For someone like me, the amount going into my account is far less than what ought to go to my cooperative society. I also know someone, a Deputy Director who has mandated his cooperative society to deduct a hundred thousand naira monthly with the aim of paying his children school fees. But, today his two children are yet to resume at the universities as a result of lack of funds.

“Unfortunately, our union leaders are not addressing the problem which has been on since last year. I remember the former governor, late Abiola Ajimobi gave this condition which was outrightly rejected during recession . Today, the present governor is doing it without any consultation” the source lamented.

Meanwhile, efforts to get reactions from the state government was abortive as the phone number of the Governor’s Aide on Labour Matters, Comrade Titilola Sodo wasn’t reachable.

However, messages sent to his WhatsApp account weren’t responded to.
