Ogbomoso born radio presenter and Oyo state Cooperative president, Prince John Tunde Oyekola, popularly known as Apatapiti, is dead, aged 62.
He died on Monday evening during a brief illness.
Apatapiti reportedly had health challenge on Sunday, which he promptly attended to by going for check-up at a hospital.
However, his conditions deteriorated yesterday. He didn’t survive it.
His residence at Oke-Alapata in Ogbomoso is presently being thronged by hundreds of sympathizers.
Until his death, he was president of Oyo State Cooperative Federation (OSCOFED).
Two years ago, he stepped down as the president of Akata Iranlowo Oluwa Cooperative Society, Ogbomoso. He was a top cooperator with enormous impact.
Besides, he was a popular On Air Personality, whose programme on Parrot FM on Sundays – Sodamo – enjoyed wide audience. Among others, the programme featured question and answer session with prizes given to winners.
Apatapiti was also a clothes/shoes merchant, he was a common face in both primary and secondary schools in Ogbomoso, as teachers formed bulk of his customers.
“He sold clothes materials to us, many bought on credit, and he never got angry even when there were cases of default in payment. He would be sorely missed,” a teacher told newsmen on phone this morning.
“In fact, about two weeks ago, he was in our school with his boys to sell clothes, he would persuade us, ‘it is you we bought them for to sell to,’ help us buy,” another teacher said.
Born on November 26, 1962, he is survived by wife and children.
