Downpour Wreaks Havoc in Oko
People of Oko, Surulere local government area of Oyo state have started counting their losses following a downpour that left tales of woes on the lips of the residents.
The stormy rain which started at around twenty minutes past seven on Wednesday evening lasted about eighteen minutes.
The destructive rain blew away many house roofs,swept off many shops and pulled off tree branches.
It also blew off a building roof and dropped on the facility of Radio Nigeria Ogo-Ilu, puncturing the roof and damaging one of the station’s operational vehicles.
Recounting his ordeal,Manager of a filling station,Mr. Johnson Adegboyega said the wind blew away two fuel dispensers at the station.
Another resident who did not want to be quoted told Radio Nigeria that the wind was lifting his vehicle during the rain.
Some of the residents while counting their losses were appreciative to God that no life was lost to the mishap.
The residents however appealed to the state government through Surulere local government to come to their aid as some means of livelihood had been destroyed.
The people who clustered in groups after the rain had subsided were discussing the unfortunate incident as they suspected that the storm was spiritually propelled.
When contacted, Chairman Surulere local government,Mr.Isaiah Adegbite said he was just briefed on the matter and promised to visit the town for an on site inspection.
He also empathised with victims of the disaster.
