A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo state aggrieved caucaus, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, has mocked the former Chied of Staff to Governor Makinde, Chief Bisi Ilaka for declaring his Senatorial ambition outside his Senatorial district.
Ilaka, who hails from Oyo East local government of Oyo central senatorial district, declared his ambition yesterday at the facility which falls within Ibadan North East area of Oyo south senatorial district.
The declaration had most of the council chairmen in the 11 LGAs as well as top party chieftains in attendance.
Since 2007, Ilaka has been nursing ambition to represent the senatorial district. He lost the PDP ticket to Folarin in 2007 while he lost the 2011, 2015 and 2019 general elections to the trio of Ayo Adeseun, Monsurat Sunmonu and Teslim Folarin respectively.
While berating what he called the bootlicking activities of some party members towards Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, Olopoeyan explained that Makinde’s former chief of staff and others had lost their political value as a result of their excessive obedient way as a means of gaining favour from Makinde.
Olopoeyan, who is one of those aggrieved with Makinde, queried Ilaka’s action, adding that he had made a big mistake, adding that Ilaka’s loyalists especially in Oyo and Ogbomoso will now be confused with such action.
According to him, “I don’t know what our people are turning PDP into. They have forgotten that PDP is bigger than Governor Seyi Makinde. Everyone in the party now prefers to do all things that pleases Makinde not even considering the future of the party, this is not good at all.
“Imagine, a senatorial aspirant who has his own campaign office in Oyo town, within his senatorial district, but decided to use Omititun House in Oyo South. Even it would have been reasonable for him if he went ahead to use party office at Molete.
“Our people have turned Governor Makinde to god, and now worshipping him. They prefer to please him than to protect the image of the party and be guided by party constitution.
Ilaka has contested for this position four times 2011, 2015 and 2019, none of the time did he made his ambition declaration outside his Oyo Central district. Even all those aspirants who had previously declared their ambitions for Oyo central senatorial district, none of them worships their leaders so much that they moved their ambition declaration out of the senatorial district they want to contest. So as he begins his 2023 ambition now within Oyo South, that means most of his campaign activities ahead of 2023 will also be within Oyo South Senatorial District”.
