A former member of the House of Representatives, Adedapo Adesina has advised Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, not to allow selfish interest to cause another downfall of the party in future elections.
Adesina, who represented Ibadan North East/ Ibadan South East federal constituency between 2015 and 2019 made this disclosure while speaking in Ibadan, the Oyo State.
He spoke during the 9th year remembrance of his father and former Governor of Oyo State, Lamidi Adesina.
Our correspondent recalls that Adesina who was the governor of the state between 1999 and 2003, died in 2012 at the age of 74.
Present at the event were the former governors; Rashidi Ladoja and Adebayo Alao-Akala, Alhaja Sarat Adesina, Adesina’s deputy, Barrister Iyiola Oladokun, Senators Teslim Folarin, Fatai Buhari, Monsurat Sunmonu and Adesoji Akanbi, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu, Chief Niyi Akintola, Hon. Musliudeen Akinremi, Hon. Bosun Oladele, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, Hon. Segun Taiwo, Former SSG Alhaji Akin Olajide and Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi.
Others are Otunba Rotimi Ajanaku, Chief Taofeek Adegboyega, Alh Abu Gbadamosi, Alhaji Lekan Kassim, Chief Isaac Omodewu, Mr Dele Akinleye, Alhaji Laide Abass, Hon. Mojeed Olaoya, Chief Lowo Obisesan, Hon. Afeez Bolaji, Chief Ismail Akinade-Fijabi and Alhaji Kayode Adanla among others.
Roundoyo recalls that APC lost the gubernatorial election to the incumbent Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party lost the election in 2019, allegedly due to some crisis during the build-up to the elections.
Adesina, who is one of the chieftains of the APC in the state, however, enjoined stalwarts and members of the party, to jettison their selfish interest and work for the success of the party in the future elections.
He advised the members of the party not to allow their selfish interest to spoil its fate.
He said, “We should not allow our selfish interest spoil the party. I am confident that we will get over it.
“The attendance has shown that everybody who wants to be remembered after his demise must live a life of legacy.
“We invited everybody. It was so stressful but we extended invites. However, we cannot say what made some of them be absent from here. They would surely have reasons but that does not matter.”
The Chief Imam of Ibadan and Grand Imam of Oyo State, Sheikh AbdulGaneey Agbotomokekere led other Islamic clerics to the 9th year Fidau. They prayed for the repose of the soul of the late former Governor.
Chief Imam of Oluyole, Mudathir Bada, in his sermon, said politicians are in the habit of forgetting God.
He added that God, at any time, can make leaders and remove them at any time.
Oladokun, in his closing remarks, thanked those who graced the event.
