Convention will open floodgate for defections to PDP ― Fintiri

• Join us to rescue Nigeria, Diri tells citizens

The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention Planning Committee, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, of Adamawa State, on Thursday, expressed confidence that the conduct of this weekend exercise will cause mass defections politicians to the main opposition party.

Speaking after a meeting of the committee in Abuja, he said the committee intends to conduct a convention that will be adjudged one of the best in the history of any political party.

He said it is not just the nature of the convention that will attract people to the PDP but the worsening conditions in the country.

According to him, Nigerians are looking up to the opposition party to rescue the nation.

Speaking to reporters, he said: “I foresee that by the end of this convention, which will be adjudged as one of the best in the history, of not just the PDP but of any political party ever in this country. It is going to close down most of the political parties especially in APC.

“With their own democratic process, we saw what happened, from their wards and states congresses are really shattered. Instead of having 36 chairmen, they have about 90 something.

“So, with this convention that we’re going to deliver, I believe with the democratic process and procedures that we have followed diligently, is going to open the floodgate for all of them to come in.

“And I think this is not just because of the convention, also but because of the situation, Nigerians are in today.

“Everybody is not just looking at PDP to rescue them, but they are looking at PDP as a platform that they will bring in a new government in 2023.”

Also speaking, Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State, called on Nigerians home and abroad to join the PDP to rescue Nigeria from what he called the brink of collapse.

He observed that Nigeria is bleeding, making it imperative for all to work with the opposition to save it.

Governor Diri stated: “We like to call on Nigerians and Nigerians abroad to say there is hope for this country, and this is the right time to rescue the country from the brink of collapse.

“Nigeria is bleeding and whether you are home or abroad, this is your country, and it is time for you to now join hands with the only main opposition party that has been reorganised, that is looking forward to having a brand new National Executive Committee elected come Saturday.

“So, we call on brothers and sisters home and abroad to join hands with the main political opposition party to rescue Nigeria.”
