A political Odyssey: The Rise And Rise of Hon Segun Ebenezer Ogunwuyi | Femi Ajiboye.

Hon Segun Ebenezer Ogunwuyi is a Nigerian political personage, an astute accountant and a leading light in the contemporary democratic space not only in Oyo State but in the country as a whole.

Lekan Sii or OSE as he is famously called was born on 26th January years back to the family of Mr and Mrs Abraham Ogunwuyi of Ile Apongbonrin, Arenidala. Apagborins family moved from Ile-Ife in Osun State to Offa Kwara State before they finally settled in Arenidala Ogbomoso South local government area.

He had his early education in Army secondary school and Oke odo High school in Lagos. He then proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – ife where he obtained a BSC in Accounting and a Master in Business Administration (MBA Executive). He also has Msc in Accounting from Nasarrawa state university Keffi.

Before he ventured into politics he has worked and consulted for top organisations like Baker Hughes(UK) MRS oil and gas (Monaco), NNPC among others. Ogunwuyi had chalked up surfeit of experience in the cloistered accounting practice before making a brave leap into arid terra firma of politics.

Crafting a befitting accolade for this colossus and reputable lawmaker is really a herculean task.

However, an attempt will be made to outline those specifics that have incised him on the minds of the people as a political icon who has come through the ranks in his political career.

His political odyssey kicked off in 2011 when he was elected as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ogbomoso South constituency under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party. A position he held until 2015, when he contested and secured a seat as the Honourable representing Ogbomoso South/North and Orire federal constituency of Oyo State at the Federal House of Representatives defeating the then incumbent majority leader of the House of representatives.

During the tenure at the State House of Assembly under the speakership of Monsurat Sumonu, Hon Ogunwuyi chaired and was a member of different house committees.

Advancing to the Eight Assembly From the Oyo State House of Assembly, (2015-2019), It is needful to mention that he blazingly sponsored several Bills in the course of his legislative career, some of which are; A Bill for Act to amend the Federal highways Act Cap.F13 L. F. N 2004 and other matters connected therewith,A Bill for an Act to provide for the establishment for the national centre for stroke management and other matters connected therewith, A Bill for an Act to Amend the Nigeria Minerals and Mining Act, Motion on the need to make adequate plans and preparation for a post-oil Economy in Nigeria, motion on the urgent need to rehabilitate the Old Oyo / Ogbomoso Road and completion of dualization of new Oyo/Ogbomoso expressway, an unforgettable move that was met with commendation from different segments of the Nigerian population due to the economic interest of the road.

During his era as a lawmaker both at the state and federal assemblies Ogunwuyi benovelence was felt at the grassroots level with notable distributions such as, Empowerment programme of Vehicles keke napeb, Motorcycles, Grinding machines, generators, Deep freezers , laptops, vulcanising machines, Standing fans, widows and disable empowerment, coolers, School uniforms, pressing irons among others.

Similarly, he constructed a block of 3 classroom at Kajola primary school Alapata, A block of 3 classroom at Methodist primary school Arowomole,
Boreholes at California, ojude olopete, obandi, ojude Babarinde ijeru, farm settlement, papa abede among others.

Also he ensured over educational and vocational training for students and youths were beneficiaries. He also electrified and provided transformers for obandi, Aje-iya, yaku, irewolede, Budo Ode, olohunda, Budo Oyin, Ipekun and other communities, has he ensures over 100 constituents and were beneficiaries N-power slots were employed.

In 2018, Hon Ogunwuyi formally announced his defection back to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressive Party (APC), even though it was on the platform of the Labour Party he won the House of Representatives election.

In recognition of his quintessential leadership Hon Segun Ebenezer Ogunwuyi was appointed has the Director-General Oyo State Public-private Partnership by the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde.

Hon Ogunwuyi is no doubt a political asteroid. He blasts through every “obstacle-sphere”, leaving awe and daze in his wake. He is an enigma, and he will remain so even after he eventually retires from active politics.
