FOGSU: Students embarked on wide clean up exercise in Ogbomoso.

In a bid to ensure a clean environment in Ogbomosoland, the federation of Ogbomoso student union, FOGSU, embarked on a wide clean-up exercise across the five local governments in Ogbomoso zone.

The exercise, tagged Operation Clean Ogbomoso was held across the 5 local government areas (LGAs) of the zone, saw students who were mainly youths, took to the streets, parks, markets and major roads to clear debris and other rubbles between 28th to 30th January 2021.

In a statement by the National President of the student body, Comrade Adeniran Abiodun Sunday, he said the exercise is intended to positively engage youths in the cleanup of the environment, noting that necessary logistics were provided by the student body for the exercise.

According to him, “ It saddens to see how Ogbomoso, one of the most strong city of Oyo state that used to be the second cleanest’ city in Nigeria become a shadow of itself. The sight of refuse littering all the major roads in the city is worrisome.

“The mobilization of hundreds of Oyo State students to major roads in Ogbomoso for a clean-up aimed at showing Oyo State citizens that our environment is our responsibility. Environmental waste management is crucial not only in maintaining cleanliness but also for good hygiene.” he added.

He noted that “government must prioritize waste management and sanitation in the state. It is one of the key pillars in assessing the effectiveness of an administration besides performance in infrastructure, health, education and security of lives and property.

“Moreso, the office of the Commissioner for Environment rather than a political compensation, must be occupied by an environmental expert. Candidates should be apt and innovative enough to drive the desired change.”

He however appreciates the effort of all the students and Hon. Adeyinka Remi Oluwaseun Caretaker Chairman Ogbomoso Central LCDA, Hon. Ajagbe Ibrahim Toskay Caretaker Chairman Ogbomoso North L.G,
Hon. Adegbite Isaiah Caretaker Chairman Surulere Central L.G,Hon. Sarafadeen Caretaker Chairman Surulere North LCDA,Hon Gbadamosi Maroof Caretaker Chairman Surulere South LCDA, Hon.
