Caretaker Chairman of Ogbomoso south local government area, Hon Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy has called on markets and traders’ associations in Oyo state to support the government by accepting policies that would improve the business environment in the state.
Hon Oyedokun said this on Wednesday at Kajola Market in Ogbomoso South local government, where prayers were held for the development of the modern market.
Skeletal prayers were held by Christians, Muslim’s and Traditionalists for the development of the market.
OOT has fondly called while speaking said the Engr Seyi Makinde’s led government is determined to create conducive business environments so as to maximise output from businesses and trade in order to boost economic activities.
The Council boss said some of the reasons why the state government gave ultimatum to those trading on the streets include unavailability of basic amenities such as parking space, functional toilets, potable running water, provisions for relevant facilities to support emergency response, and the spilling of the market to the road, which causes traffic gridlock.
“Road side trading is deficient in a number of ways, some of which make it unable to run smoothly in the vicinity. There is no parking space neither is there provision for facilities for emergencies. Sanitary facilities are also lacking. These are basic amenities that are necessary for proper functioning of a market,” he said.
He explained that Ogbomoso South local government council has prepared the modern kajola market for the road side traders urging them to move into the modern market.
He also assured them of a pleasurable experience as traders and their customers, and forestall disruptions and disasters
It would be recalled that the Oyo State Government has issued a 7-day ultimatum to Traders who sell by the road-side across the State to vacate or face wrath of the law.
Among those present at the prayer were, High Chief Alago Ife of Ago Ife,Babaloja of Ogbomoso South, Iyaloja of Ogbomoso South, HLA, Bishop Abraham Oyetunji, other set religious leaders among others.
