The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Mrs Tamunominini Makinde has given relief package to heads of market women (Iyalojas) as part of her effort to cushion the effect of covid-19 pandemic in the state, urging them to follow precautions in order to stop the spread of the virus. The relief package was distributed on Thursday at the Governor’s Wife Office, Agodi, Ibadan.
While speaking on behalf of the Oyo First Lady, the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni said that due to the effect of coronavirus pandemic, the first Lady in her magnamity has decided to showed kindness to the market women leaders (Iyaloja’s), saying that the gesture will be extend to other market women as time goes on.
According to her, “The first lady action was informed by the kind of good person she was, she would have done more than these, but because of the social distance protocol as a result of the covid-19 pandemic, that was why she decided to be doing it in batches.
She, however called on the people of the state to join hands with the Oyo State government in fighting the virus which she described as a common enemy, adding that fighting coronavirus requires collective efforts of everyone.
While responding to the gesture of the governors wife, the Iyaloja of Ibadan land, Chief Mrs Iswat Ameringun thanked the first lady, saying that they were happy when they were called for the palliatives looking at the suffering of the market women in the state in general.
She however seeks more inclusion of market women in the palliatives, saying that the gesture must go around so that all the market women in the state can also benefited.
In a related development, the Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Mrs Tamunominini Makinde has also distributed foodstuffs and other items to Muslim Women as part of palliatives and felicitation during Covid 19 as well as Ramadan period in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Media Officer to Her Excellency, Sunday Ogundare, which was made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to Mrs Makinde, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Faosat Sanni, visited two places which are NASFAT Oyo Zone at Samonda and Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria Oyo Chapter (FOMWAN) at Akobo Ibadan. She said the essence of the palliatives is to support the State Government’s efforts by extending her hand of fellowship to Women in the State to ease the pain and untold hardships this present pandemic called Covid 19 which is ravaging the whole world has brought their way and in the spirit of Ramadan as well.
While presenting the palliatives, she encouraged muslim women to use the Ramadan period to pray for the state, adding that, Researchers and Privileged Nigerians should come up with solutions that will elimimate and put an end to covid 19.
Mrs Tamunominini however, implored the people to adhere strictly to the laid down health guidelines and Government directive throughout the pandemic such as social distancing, regular hand washing, use of face mask among others.
Some of the palliatives distributed to the beneficiaries are rice, beans, noodles, garri, egg, bread, vegetable oil and cash gift among others.
