Covid-19: We cancelled the 60,000 people palm Sunday gathering in Ogbomoso for the first time in over 50 years – Bishop Moradeyo

Due to the closure order of religious institutions and other places in Oyo state palm Sunday gathering of over 60, 000 Christians fails to hold in Ogbomoso for the first time in over 50 years.

This was disclosed today by the Chairman Ogbomoso Inter-Faith Council Bishop David Moradeyo while speaking with Our correspondent Oluwafemi AJIBOYE on the compliance of the church lockdown order in Ogbomoso.

Bishop Moradeyo of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Ogbomoso, who is also the Chairman Oyo State pilgrimage board christian wing, he said that all religious institutions in Ogbomoso adhere strictly to the restriction order of closure of Churches and mosques as set out by the government.

He said “am the Chairman of Ogbomoso Inter-Faith Council have called everyone the heads of each religion leaders and we have obeyed the government instructions you can’t see any church or mosque opened here in Ogbomoso, the compliance is 100 percent.

Also in Ogbomoso every year we Christians normally meet at Okelerin Baptist Church, he first church in the town to celebrate the palm Sunday which ceased to hold today and for the first time in over 50 years, that also shows we obeyed the law”

He maintained that the stay at home order is necessary as to save lives and contain the spread of the virus as he said its even in the Bible,citing example of when Jesus went to the wilderness.

Furthermore he called on Christians to be having their prayers and thanking God as he note that it’s only Temples that are closed.

On the issue of the closeness of the town to Ejigbo in Osun state where there has been confirmed cases of the virus, the Bishop Moradeyo thanked the government of Osun state for his pro activeness in quarantining the 127 returnees from Ivory Coast.

However he urged the people to follow all instructions given out by medical experts as he Prayed that soon the virus will no more be in existence.
