Establish food Banks, Nigeria don’t have comprehensive list of vulnerable households – Muftau Open Salawu

A call has been made to the Federal Government to establish food banks across the 774 local government areas in the country.

This call was made by Ogbomoso born Civil Engineer and Philanthropist, Engr Muftau Open Salawu in a release made available to journalists.

According to him, he said the need for the food bank in all local government areas in the country is necessary because there is no good database or harmonized data in Nigeria.

Engr Muftau who had earlier blazed the trail in his community by donating food items worth N3million added that he is not sure if the country has a comprehensive record of vulnerable people despite the fact that “most Nigerians are vulnerable“.

“The amount of food in the country may not sustain our population for too long and very soon everybody will know how vulnerable we all are.

“The earlier the better we all observed total luck down all over the country, not the sectional luck down we are experiencing now, curbing the spread and isolating infected people are the way to go now.“ He added.

He stressed further that the Food Banks should be established quickly in all the 774 Local Government and Headed by the chairman of the traditional rulers of that Local government while local government Chairmen should serve as Secretary, with community development chairmen as members.

“The Government should put 2000 bags of rice and 2000 bags of beans in each of the 774 food banks to be established and 70 Billion Naira can take care of it and more than 15 million households could be reached within a week and thereafter we can enforce the stay at home.”

The call by the chieftain of APC in Ogbomosho is part of efforts by various individuals and organizations to contribute to the country’s fight against coronavirus, a pandemic that has killed thousands globally.
