Indications emerged on Monday that the bill on Amotekun may be passed by the Oyo State House of Assembly today (Tuesday).
Although attempts by The Punch to get an official confirmation from the lawmakers were abortive, a close source said, “The bill on Amotekun is ready for passage.”
Asked if non-indigenes would be enlisted in the security outfit in the state, he said, “There is no hope for that. All I can say is that it is hopeful that the bill would be passed for assent tomorrow (Tuesday.)
“It was clear that we needed to complement the efforts of the police and other sister security agencies in our community at the time the idea of Amotekun came.
“Now, Amotekun was designed by the states in this zone to draft the local security outfits into a network that would protect us from the mauraders. So, you will agree with me that it is intended for those who are familiar with the terrain and not for outsiders.”
