Ogbomoso Open tennis 2019 showed there is a lot of talents in Ogbomoso. Day two of the competition was full of surprises as athletes who are grandpa’s still played actively despite many of them claiming it’s been years they’ve played last.
Speaking with Roundoyo, one of the finalistswho at the Under 60 category, Mr Owolabi Abdulfatai said he started playing table tennis over thirty years ago, since his school days even going as far as representing his school Ogbomoso Baptist High School at the inter school table tennis competition in Ogbomoso zone and further representing Ogbomoso at the state level in 1994.
“I started playing like 30 years ago, I represented Ogbomoso Baptist High School and Ogbomosho at the state level in 1994.When I heard about this competition, i was very happy because the last time I played in a table tennis competition was 1994. I even came along with two of my biological children who participated at the under 15 category. On behalf of Ogbomosho we are grateful to Engr Muftau Open Salawu for organising this, football is not the only game we have”.
Also another participant who had been knocked out said now that Engr Muftau Open has breathe life back into table tennis in Ogbomoso, they will show the world that there are talents in the city.
Meanwhile tomorrow is the final and third place matches having played the knockout, quarter-finals and semi-finals for two days.

The venue is Ogbomoso town hall oja igbo, Ogbomoso by 10am tommorow.
The competition was organised by Engr Muftau Open Salawu in honour of late Prince Fatai Asafa Oyewumi aka F.A.O
